Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), which shared in the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997, is a U.S.-based international advocacy organization working at the intersection of medicine, science, and law. Building upon its highly respected place in the field, and supported by a committed and talented team, PHR seeks a Consultant for Developing Training Videos.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in Kenya.

Location: Nakuru and Kisumu, Kenya

Reports to: Kenya Head of Office

Organizational Overview

Physicians for Human Rights was founded in 1986 by five physicians who were united in the belief that health professionals, with their specialized skills, ethical duties, and credible voices, are uniquely positioned to prevent harm and promote respect for human rights. Since its founding, PHR has built a long and distinguished record of accomplishment by conducting groundbreaking investigations and advocacy, in concert with strategic partners.

PHR’s approach includes extensive documentation of the use of illegal and inhumane weapons in armed conflicts, attacks on civilians, and the physical and psychological impacts of torture and sexual violence as a weapon of war. Other core activities include protecting the rights of those seeking asylum in the United States, the human rights implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, and halting attacks on medical facilities and frontline health professionals.

Role Description

The expert will work with PHR’s staff and Consultant to first gain an in-depth understanding of the trainings for which the videos and illustrations are needed, understand the content and objectives of each of the training modules. The Consultant will take the lead in developing videos for training modules as follows:

  1. 8 videos on the Multisectoral Training on collection and documentation of sexual violence
  2. 1 video on Pediatrics management of sexual violence training
  3. 3 videos on Medicapt training

Each of the training videos is estimated to take about 5- 10 minutes.

Responsibilities

The Consultant be responsible to the following:

a) Meet with the PHR understand the trainings narrative and get accurate information and key words to be used for the videos

 b)  Take videos of PHR’s trainers explaining or demonstrating training areas

The scope of the work will include:

  • Design the videos as per requirements determined by PHR (sound, editing, narration, subtitling etc)
  • Record and use Standard English narration and prepare background sound/music for the videos as maybe required
  • Manage all necessary tools and equipment including used in this assignment
  • Finalization of the videos after approval by PHR

c) Finalize and deliver original artwork on the videos

Consultant must use high quality video software.

Requirements

  • The consultant must have high level technical/professional expertise and creativity in videos. 
  • At least two examples of past videos productions they have directly designed and produced in a similar assignment, preferably on training content.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

  • The ideal Candidate must have demonstrated competency in developing and producing training videos, editing, and finalizing
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential 

Salary and Benefits

This is a short-term consultancy located in Nakuru and Kisumu, Kenya with a hybrid work model. Salary is commensurate with experience.
