Catherine Pilishvili develops and implements PHR’s international advocacy strategies that build on and connect to PHR’s research and investigations, training and capacity development, and network-building initiatives. She is responsible for the international component of PHR’s initiatives to identify, promote, and address human rights issues. Additionally, she helps mobilize and leverage the influence of health care workers, forensic scientists, and other allied professionals and constituents worldwide to advance human rights.
Prior to joining Physicians for Human Rights, Pilishvili worked for Human Rights Watch in New York. Her thematic and regional focus included women’s rights, LGBT rights, freedom of expression, and media freedoms in the post-Soviet space, particularly in the South Caucasus, Russia, and Ukraine.
Pilishvili holds a BA in international studies and journalism from Emory University, and an MA from Georgetown University in conflict resolution. She speaks Georgian, Russian, Spanish, English, and French.
