As PHR’s Interim Executive Director, Joel Lamstein oversees all aspects of the organization’s finance, human resources, and administration activities.
Lamstein is the founder and president of John Snow, Inc. and the nonprofit JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., international public health consulting firms which together employ more than 2,000 staff worldwide. In 1982, he assumed the presidency of World Education, Inc.. Responsibilities include developing corporate plans, overseeing internal management systems, providing senior-level oversight of global health projects, and managing new business development.
Lamstein is an adjunct lecturer on global health at the Harvard School of Public Health and Tulane University. He is a frequent lecturer on organizational strategy, nonprofit management, and international development.
Lamstein served on the board of Physicians for Human Rights and the advisory council of the Children’s Health Fund in New York. He was the Global Health Council’s board of directors from 1998-2012 and served as the board chair between 2004-2012. He is currently on the boards of advisors at Boston University Public Health School and the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and he also served on the board of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies.
