John Mix brings three decades of international and U.S. nonprofit management experience to the newly created role of chief marketing and development officer, in which he oversees all aspects of PHR’s communications and development operations.
Prior to joining PHR, Mix served as the vice president of marketing and communications at Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) Worldwide, an international, faith-based NGO providing long-term, community based medical and development aid to communities affected by poverty and unequal access to health care. There, he oversaw marketing, communications, brand, major gifts, and development operations and rebuilt CMMB’s external relations department.
Prior to CMMB, Mix worked at Human Rights Watch as senior director of marketing and had a decade-long tenure at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), where he started as the director, data analytics before becoming director of digital marketing, a role that he helped design. Under his leadership, the IRC’s digital program grew six-fold. Mix also worked at other New York based nonprofits, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Carnegie Hall Corporation, and the Museum of Natural History.
Mix holds a BA from Adelphi University, with a concentration in art history and religious studies, and an MS in nonprofit leadership from Fordham University.
