Manager, Donor Engagement & Stewardship
Position Summary
For more than 30 years, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has used science and medicine to document and call attention to mass atrocities and severe human rights violations. An organization sharing in a Nobel Peace Prize, PHR is poised for even greater growth and impact. As part of that strategy, we are very excited to be recruiting committed activists with a passion for human rights.
One such newly created role is that of manager, donor engagement & stewardship. This position is for a fundraising professional who is responsible for significantly expanding and stewarding PHR’s base of major donors. Primary responsibilities focus on major donor engagement, including stewardship of PHR’s leadership council, managing donor communications, setting up stewardship strategies for top donors, as well as overseeing PHR’s annual gala. The manager, donor engagement & stewardship serves on a staff of seven committed fundraising professionals; and works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, donors, and programmatic staff.

Responsibilities
• Contributes to the development of and helps implement long and short term fundraising strategies to expand PHR’s base of major donors, both domestically and internationally.
• Works with program and communications staff to draft donor briefs, proposals and asks that secure gifts.
• Designs an annual calendar of creative and unique major donor engagement opportunities.
• Plans and implements cultivation and stewardship events for prospective and current donors such as dinners, receptions, and donor briefings.
• Identifies major donor prospects and conducts background research in preparation of meetings.
• Tracks donors and prospects through the moves management system.
• Regularly measures and reports on fundraising progress for their portfolio.
• Works with gala committee members and individual donors in support of fundraising activities for PHR’s main fundraising event.
• Other related tasks as required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• Technology-savvy with an understanding of database and management systems, Salesforce preferred.
• Minimum five years of fundraising experience with a track record of building donor relations and closing gifts.
• Knowledge of donors in the New York area and in the human rights field desired.
Skills
• Superb written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with staff at all levels, and ability to represent PHR with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
• Meticulous attention to details.
• Good listener with the ability to build rapport easily with internal and external constituents.
• A team-oriented person with a passion for human rights, excellent judgment, maturity, creativity, flexibility, and a good sense of humor.
• Strong commitment to the mission and goals of PHR.
Salary and Benefits
