As Senior Accountant, Ernest Mwangi works under the guidance of the Controller to support the organization’s financial integrity and accountability across U.S. and international operations. He oversees key accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, reconciliations, and audit support, ensuring strong financial controls and compliance.
He has more than a decade of experience within the nonprofit sector, managing end-to-end financial operations in numerous projects implemented across African countries including Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya. His previous roles were Projects Finance Officer and Accountant at Protection International and Aga Khan Foundation respectively. Ernest’s notable strengths include proficiency in financial analysis and reporting, hands-on experience in several ERP systems, knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory frameworks for Nonprofits.
Ernest is a BA (Economics) graduate of the University of Nairobi, and a certified public accountant – CPA(K). He is fluent in English and Kiswahili, and is currently learning French.
