Gail Saltz, MD is a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Medical College and a psychoanalyst with the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. In addition to her teaching and private practice, Dr. Saltz is a frequent media contributor, columnist, bestselling author, and podcast host, offering her expertise on a variety of psychological and mental health issues, especially those pertaining to women’s emotional well-being, relationships, and the mental health aspects of current news.
Dr. Saltz has served as a visiting professor at Stanford University, and chairs the 92nd Street Y’s 7 Days of Genius Advisory Committee. She also hosts two series at the 92nd Street Y: Strength of Mind, where she interviews celebrities and extraordinary individuals about psychologically interesting issues, and Psychobiography, where she shares a look inside the minds of historical icons.
Dr. Saltz has appeared on or been featured in a wide range of media, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Good Morning America, CNN, CBS This Morning, MSNBC, and more. She has published numerous books, including her latest book, The Power of Different: The Link Between Disorder and Genius (2017).
Dr. Saltz graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and served her internship and residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at Cornell-Weill School of Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital. She received her BA in Biology and Psychology from Lehigh University.
