The Use of Rape as a Weapon of War in Darfur, Sudan

In the conflict in Darfur, tens of thousands of civilians have been systematically killed, raped, and starved. PHR performed extensive interviews and qualitatively assessed the nature, circumstances and context of rape as a weapon in the nation’s on-going war. This report was prepared for the U.S. Agency for International Development/OTI published through the Program on Humanitarian Crises and Human Rights, of the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health, with help from PHR.
